Temporary Road Closure – Torrey Pines Drive at Chestnut Street to Pebble Beach Drive

We understand that residents may have questions regarding the temporary road closure associated with the current sewer construction project. The Township considered several factors before implementing this traffic pattern, with public safety being the primary concern.

The construction equipment staged in the area would have significantly reduced sight distance at the intersection on the affected roadway. To eliminate this safety hazard, the Township temporarily closed that section of the road. The development continues to have three alternate entrances and exits, which add only a minimal amount of travel time for motorists.

The Township also evaluated several locations for staging construction equipment. The selected location helps minimize impacts to nearby residents and Township infrastructure. Residents on Chestnut Street will experience temporary driveway access restrictions for approximately one week and will need to park on the street during that time. The contractor is working as efficiently as possible to complete the work and restore normal access as quickly as possible.

An alternative staging area at the Sewer Authority treatment plant was considered; however, the facility has limited available space. In addition, using the selected staging location reduces the distance that heavy construction equipment—such as an approximately 80,000-pound excavator—must travel on Township roads, helping to minimize unnecessary wear and potential damage to the roadway.

The Township has notified emergency service providers of the temporary road closure, and residents with driveways located within the affected area have also been informed.

Weather permitting, the roadwork is expected to be completed by Thursday, July 16th, of this week. We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as this important infrastructure project is completed safely and efficiently.
